Jo started Aardvarks to Zebras in 2013 and has since gone on to expand the business with the help of some amazing people along the way. Karen and Kirsty are amazing additions to the team and both highly enthusiastic to meet your fur-babies. For your reassurance and peace of mind we are all insured and have up to date DBS checks. Jo has been into animal care from a very early age. She has always had pets at home and was thrilled to be able to complete an NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care in a gap year between Sixth Form and University. While studying at Hadlow College she completed a three year Animal Management degree with the University of Greenwich.
Jo then went on to spend six years working as a Receptionist / Small Animal Veterinary Nurse in Putlands Veterinary Surgery in Paddock Wood. She then progressed on to Large Animal Veterinary Nursing, which included work such as general care during admission to the practice, assisting during surgical procedures, administering medication and cleaning the animals.
After Putlands Jo moved to the RSPCA Animal Centre in South Godstone. Here she cared for animals that had come into the centre due to cases of cruelty or abandonment. She worked with the animals to rehabilitate them so they could be rehomed as well as tending to their general health care and living conditions.
Courses and Modules completed include;
- Professional Dog Walking Certificate
- Dog First Aid
- Animal Aggression Management
- Advanced Animal Behaviour
- Advanced Veterinary Nursing Techniques
- Animal Husbandry
Having worked as a Civil Servant for a number of years, in a variety of roles, Karen realised that her real passion was to work with animals. So when the opportunity to join the Aardvark Family presented itself, she positively jumped at the chance!
Karen’s experience comes from the vast array of pets she’s had, which include hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, dogs and fish. Karen has been with the Aardvark family since 2018 and is much loved by our regular fluffs. Karen is also Auntie to the furry babies of her family and friends, having looked after them on numerous occasions. Also not forgetting Grandma to little Parker the Miniature Dachshund.
Since moving to Tonbridge from the Midlands, Karen is now the proud mum to three children.
Karen is a fantastic fantastic member of the team. She’s very much looking forward to caring for your pets, whether that’s a dog walk, cat visit or time with your other pets, whilst you’re away at work or on holiday.
A recent film graduate, Kirsty has always loved animals. She has cared for a large number of family pets including multiple dogs, rabbits and hamsters. Kirsty has previously been an avid horse rider and, alongside riding lessons, worked with a selection of horses at a local yard. There are many strings to our lady’s bow!
As well as the Arts, Kirsty’s other main passion is her own gorgeous Miniature Dachshund, Parker. The two are inseparable!
Kirsty thoroughly enjoys walking and the outdoors – to be accompanied by our clients’ four-legged friends along the way is a real privilege and treat. That being said, Kirsty also loves settling down with some feline friends, so really does have experience of a true A to Z of animals.
Kirsty has been with us since 2018 and has become our unofficial in-house photographer. A quality we hadn't realised was much needed in this industry.
